Not Just Any Hibachi

When you first walk in, it appears to be a small mom-and-pop restaurant, but Jade Hibachi actually sells over 50 different delicious dishes.  This dining place is great due to its location for college students and professors, the large menu for convenient prices for a college budget, and the supportive and warm vibe it gives off.

Jade Hibachi gains numerous customers because of its location on Graduate Road in relation to the two colleges it is practically right across from: Coastal Carolina University and Horry Georgetown Technical College.  Many students and even professors love the hibachi restaurant because during a break in classes, they can drive over, grab some quick lunch or dinner, then return to their studies.  Also, because of its location, Jade Hibachi is generous enough to give a student discount for all students that come in!IMG_3100.JPG

The menu has a total of fifty-seven items that can be ordered ranging from Grilled Tuna to a Steak Bowl.  Although some of the seafood dishes can be a bit higher in price, most of the dishes are priced less than ten dollars such as the Chicken Bowl or the Steak Sirloin.  The menu at Jade’s compared to the other hibachi restaurant located off North Kings Highway, Jimmyz, has better prices.  For example, the Miso soup at Jade Hibachi is $1.25, but at Jimmyz, the same soup is two dollars more.  One Coastal Carolina University student, Chris Condelli, who regularly visits Jade Hibachi stated, “The food tastes really good and I am a huge fan of their sweet and sour chicken.”  He has been going to the restaurant for over three years.

Jade Hibachi Menu: Appetizers, Bowls, and Entrees

A ton of support is given by the hibachi restaurant towards the Coastal Carolina University teams.  They have posters on their walls showing pride in the Chanticleers and some of the cooks and cashiers wear the Coastal shirts.  Some of the students in classes at the college even work at Jade’s so it makes the atmosphere friendlier to see classmates.  Not only does the restaurant show its enthusiasm for the colleges, but it also allows its customers to write on their chalk wall to show their own support.  People write twitter names, initials of their best friends and, of course, “Go Chanticleers!”.  It’s a great way to be creative and expressive while waiting for your food.  Because the food is prepared as soon as someone orders, sometimes while it’s busy, the wait can be a few minutes.  But while writing or drawing on the chalk wall, the wait feels like it’s only a few seconds!

How To Ace That Final!

“People who make the choice to study, work hard or do whatever they endeavor is to give it the max on themselves to reach to the top level.”  In order to achieve particular goals in life such as a degree or successful job, there is a process which may start with working hard at a lower position or studying for the final examination in your class.  To study is another process necessary where one may be asked to remember information, analyze material, and understand the curriculum.

The first step in learning new material to prepare for an examination is to make sure that you understand the material.  If you have any questions, ask the teacher!  A teacher is there to do their job which is to teach.  Even if the information is not yet analyzed or memorized, questions left unanswered will leave you confused on the test too.  Let’s say you still don’t understand or have a good grip on the material, there is more help!  Tutors are an excellent resource.  They can be other teachers, adults, or students and peers, but no matter who they are, they can explain information in a different, maybe more comprehensive way.  Once you’ve got that in notes and in your head, just start studying!

Towards the end of every night or every other night for about a half an hour, review the information.  It’s not much, but it helps!  In one study, there were two groups of participants who each studied at a different time: one at nine in the morning and one at nine at night.  The group that studied at night went to sleep after they had studied and later proved that they could better recall the information that they were asked to retain.  If you aren’t the type of person who enjoys studying (like a lot of students) then watch some television, but there’s a catch: study while commercials are running.

After just reviewing the material, you should start making some note cards or flashcards.  One can do this with either paper cards or even online!  This is a great way to test yourself and see if you have actually retained the information.  If you can recall the material, wonderful! If not, then instead of just flipping the card over when you don’t know the answer, search through your notes until you find the answer.

Since now you should be able to answer your own questions of the material, the next step is to pass the notes to someone else: a family member, friend, or study group member.  Let them come up with questions and see if you can explain an answer to them.  If you can’t give them the correct answer, try getting a hint that won’t give you the whole answer but will guide you to it!

Finally once you’ve done the reviewing, analyzing, flashcards, and quizzing, the material should be stuck in your brain so not matter what kind of test you get, you’ll ace it!

Mean

“I love how the girl is so fat that she can’t even do a full minute of dancing without two cuts for her to catch her breath,” was a comment left on a dancing video on YouTube of a woman named Whitney Thore.  Whitney, who is on the television show My Big Fat Fabulous Life, is a 380 pound American living in the 21st century.  Why would someone take time out of their day to leave a horrible, discouraging comment toward someone they don’t even know?  Whitney was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.  So, to the person who left the comment, did they know how hurtful it would be to Whitney?  Sometimes people hurt others knowingly and sometimes unknowingly; either way, people can hurt people physically, mentally, and verbally.

In America alone, approximately 160,000 students skip school every day because of bullying.  It doesn’t make sense to me why Americans are letting this happen.  Everyone and anyone could be bullied, but no one ever seems to care until it is personal or until it is too late.  Most teenagers are joining the trend of tweeting, and Whitney Thore has started #nobodyshamecampaign.  Not everyone is bullied for their body image, but I think that the campaign is another way for people to help others instead of hurt others.  Getting the word out is great!

Instead of hurting others, we should be helping and caring for those around us.  We all live on this Earth.  Dalai Lama once said, “Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.”  Americans have been drilling this into children’s minds since babies.  How many times does someone pass a homeless person and give them that bottle of water which has been in the car for weeks or the half eaten sandwich about to be finished?  Too many times, people don’t.

I don’t think people realize the impact they can make on one’s life.  Take teachers for example.  The strictest, harshest, most discouraging teacher could make a child hate school forever.  On the other hand, a caring, uplifting, and helpful teacher could become a role model for students.  Words matter: they can hurt or they can help.

One organization encouraging people to be kinder to one another is Dina Creiger’s Choose To Be Nice.  On the website, numerous people have shared their stories about how  they themselves and others are making the promise to be kind.  Lots of those people give thanks to Choose To Be Nice for keeping them inspired.  This is just one of the organizations in the world trying to change how people interact with one another to make the interaction more loving.

Whitney Thore is not the only person who has been hurt; everyone has at some point been hurt by somebody.  I hope people can change the way we speak and act toward others.  Give compliments, apologize and forgive, ask if people need any help and don’t be mean.
