How To Ace That Final!

“People who make the choice to study, work hard or do whatever they endeavor is to give it the max on themselves to reach to the top level.”  In order to achieve particular goals in life such as a degree or successful job, there is a process which may start with working hard at a lower position or studying for the final examination in your class.  To study is another process necessary where one may be asked to remember information, analyze material, and understand the curriculum.

The first step in learning new material to prepare for an examination is to make sure that you understand the material.  If you have any questions, ask the teacher!  A teacher is there to do their job which is to teach.  Even if the information is not yet analyzed or memorized, questions left unanswered will leave you confused on the test too.  Let’s say you still don’t understand or have a good grip on the material, there is more help!  Tutors are an excellent resource.  They can be other teachers, adults, or students and peers, but no matter who they are, they can explain information in a different, maybe more comprehensive way.  Once you’ve got that in notes and in your head, just start studying!

Towards the end of every night or every other night for about a half an hour, review the information.  It’s not much, but it helps!  In one study, there were two groups of participants who each studied at a different time: one at nine in the morning and one at nine at night.  The group that studied at night went to sleep after they had studied and later proved that they could better recall the information that they were asked to retain.  If you aren’t the type of person who enjoys studying (like a lot of students) then watch some television, but there’s a catch: study while commercials are running.

After just reviewing the material, you should start making some note cards or flashcards.  One can do this with either paper cards or even online!  This is a great way to test yourself and see if you have actually retained the information.  If you can recall the material, wonderful! If not, then instead of just flipping the card over when you don’t know the answer, search through your notes until you find the answer.

Since now you should be able to answer your own questions of the material, the next step is to pass the notes to someone else: a family member, friend, or study group member.  Let them come up with questions and see if you can explain an answer to them.  If you can’t give them the correct answer, try getting a hint that won’t give you the whole answer but will guide you to it!

Finally once you’ve done the reviewing, analyzing, flashcards, and quizzing, the material should be stuck in your brain so not matter what kind of test you get, you’ll ace it!
